What is the Nordic school theory? ›

The Nordic School of thought is an underpinning, unifying way to think and research services and relationships and other related areas such as service quality, value formation, customer experience, branding and relationship communication. It is not a dogma, a framework or scientific approach.

For one thing, there are national curricula in Scandinavian countries that every school has to follow, and there's no exceptions to that. The school systems are also very student-oriented. There's a lot of talk about inclusion, democracy, and equality. The teachers unions, too, are very strong.

The children are given the opportunity to explore, broaden their perspectives and gain new insights. We encourage them to use their entire body and all their senses in their learning processes and make ways so they can contribute to their own and their friends learning.

All levels of education are tax funded in the Nordics and thus tuition free for eligible residents. The Nordic educational systems range from highly ranked to world renowned, nearly all youth are enrolled in public schools and study English from the third grade or earlier.

Through education, they sought to change the way children see the world, to understand themselves as individuals, and to recognize the complex systems and relationships in society. In this way, children developed a strong sense of self-awareness, social consciousness and responsibility to others.

In Finland we have the mindset of "quality over quantity". With qualified and educated teachers, we can offer students excellent learning opportunities in school. This means that they do not have to do extra studying at home, but rather do a quick revision on the most important topics when needed.

But the most important aspect of the Nordic model is its emphasis on social learning, where students learn alongside one another in an inclusive environment while developing their social interaction, language and communication skills.

Each term includes a question that teachers are asked to create lesson plans in which children are invited to ask and answer the question in different ways, challenging them to interact with the subject matter in more meaningful ways.
