To play and pause audio or to mute yourself during a phone call, press the Touch control on the stem of an AirPod. To resume playback or to unmute yourself, press again.

To turn the volume up or down, place your thumb on the stem of either AirPod, and use your index finger to swipe up or down on the Touch control.

  1. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth. Alternatively, you can go to Settings > [your AirPods].

You can set each AirPod to do one of these when you double-tap it:

  • Use Siri*

  • Play and pause your audio content

  • Skip forward

  • Go back to the previous track

Answer calls with your AirPods or AirPods Pro

When a call comes in while you're wearing either AirPod, Siri can announce the call. Here's how to answer or decline calls:

  • To answer with AirPods Pro (1st or 2nd generation) or your AirPods (3rd generation), press the force sensor.

  • To answer with AirPods (1st or 2nd generation), double-tap an AirPod.

  • To decline an incoming phone call and send it directly to voicemail, double-press the force sensor on your AirPods Pro (1st or 2nd generation) or your AirPods (3rd generation). To decline a phone call with your AirPods (1st or 2nd generation), use the controls on your iPhone.

Siri can read your incoming messages through your AirPods Pro or AirPods (3rd generation).

* If double-tapping to use Siri doesn't work, go to Settings > Siri & Search and make sure that Allow Siri When Locked is on.
