How to make a payment (2024)

How to make a payment

To continue to protect your Account and meet regulatory commitments, payments made to your American Express® Card must come from a bank account in your name.

  • Personal Cards: Payments must be made from a personal bank account in the main Cardmember’s name. This includes payments for transactions completed by Supplementary Cardmembers.
  • Small Business and Corporate Cards:Payments must be made from a personal bank account in the main Cardmember’s name or from a business account in the same name as the company.
  • Joint accounts:Payments can be made from joint accounts so long as the main Cardmember is named on the account and is an authorized signatory.
  • Name variance:If the name on your paying bank account differs from the name of your American Express Card Account, we may contact you for more information.

It’s important to let you know that we are unable to allow payments to be made from any unrecognised persons/companies/entities going forward – as these might result in disruption to your Account. All payments are subject to additional checks, and we may contact you if we need further information.
