Last week it was Citibank, and now it seems hackers have taken aim at PNC Bank. The bank has sent a message to some five million customers warning of a possible cyber attack, the AP is reporting.
Pittsburgh, PA-based PNC Financial Services says that only former National City Bank debit accounts were compromised in a system wide breach. National City Bank, based in Cleveland, OH was acquired by the $270 billion asset PNC in December 2008.

How long before PNC closes an account?

Select the "Card Free Access" button on the ATM Welcome screen. Enter the 8-digit access code that is provided within the PNC Mobile app and tap "Continue." Enter your 4-digit card PIN associated with the card you selected in the mobile app. Perform your ATM transaction.
You can check your PNC account balance online by logging in to your account here. You can also check your balance through mobile banking and from the app. Other ways to check your balance are at the ATM or by calling the bank's customer service department at 1-888-762-2265.
Banks are liable
If a hacker steals money from a bank, the customer won't lose money since the bank is liable to refund money for fraudulent debit transactions. However, it's important to report fraud as soon as possible, as the bank's liability decreases over time.
If you paid by bank transfer or Direct Debit
Contact your bank immediately to let them know what's happened and ask if you can get a refund. Most banks should reimburse you if you've transferred money to someone because of a scam.
If Your Card or Pin Were Lost/Stolen
If you notify your bank or credit union after the two business days, you could be on the hook for up to $500 in authorized transactions. The same rules apply if you had cash taken directly out of your account as a result of a stolen PIN or security code.
