Answering the Big Questions

HOW IT WORKS

Wireless Charging Advantages, Benefits & FAQs | Logitech (6)

How it works

The wireless charging found in your phone or headset uses a technology called Qi (pronounced CHEE). The way it works is your device has a receiving pad—essentially a small loop of wire—placed beneath its back cover, and wireless chargers such as Logitech POWERED have a similar loop of wire, called the transmitter.

When the two pads are aligned, a magnetic field is formed and allows power to pass between them—wireless power! The receiving pad in your phone is the boss—it’s the one in charge and tells the transmitting pad when it’s safe to turn on and how much power to provide.

SAFETY

Wireless Charging Advantages, Benefits & FAQs | Logitech (7)

Safety

The Qi technology in both Logitech POWERED and your phone was designed from the ground up with safety in mind. One safeguard is called Foreign Object Detection. Because anything metal, such as coins, keys or metal credit cards can heat up quickly when placed on a magnetic field, Logitech POWERED will detect this and will not transmit power until the foreign object is removed.

Phones also monitor their internal temperature and request less power if they get too warm. Qi-enabled phones safely allow up to 35 degrees Celsius (95F) of warmth. Logitech POWERED has a secondary temperature gauge that measures temperature every few seconds to ensure things are running safely.

Frequently Asked

Wireless charging stand vs pad—what's right for me?

All Logitech POWERED products use the same technology and will power phones and other Qi-enabled devices.

POWERED Pad is a sleek design perfect for hallway tables or other places where you don’t need to glance at your phone.

POWERED Stand holds your phone upright so you can easily view notifications, make video calls or view kitchen recipes. Perfect for office desks, kitchen counters, and side tables.

POWERED Stand and 3-in-1 Dock is a one-stop charging station for all of your favorite Apple devices, including iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch. It’s perfect for night stands so you always wake up to fully charge devices.

How do I use a wireless charger?

Logitech POWERED requires almost no set-up—just plug it in and drop your phone down to start charging. Your phone battery icon will indicate it’s being charged and the LED on the charging pad will glow.

Which phones have wireless charging?

Qi is the wireless charging standard for mobile phones and wireless headsets, and the list of compatible devices is growing every day. You may check the product page from your phone’s manufacturer for “wireless charging”, including “reverse wireless charging” or “Qi charging”.

Can I charge wirelessly while using a phone case?

Phone cases up to 3mm thick are supported and do not have to be removed for charging. Cases featuring metal, magnets, or credit cards will prevent your phone from charging.

Can I charge wirelessly while using a phone grip?

Phone grips such as Popsockets are too thick to allow wireless chargers to detect and transmit power to your phone.

Does wireless charging damage my phone battery?

Phone batteries charge the same, whether power is coming over a cable or wirelessly. Your phone prevents its battery from being overcharged regardless of the power source. Just as with a cable, it’s safe to wirelessly charge your phone overnight and charging will stop once your battery is full.

?

How can I optimize my phone battery health?

The lithium-ion battery inside your phone naturally degrades over time, regardless of if it’s changed over a cable or wirelessly. This degradation means your phone will hold less charge over time. Battery health can be prolonged by limiting the number of charge cycles — the number of times a battery goes from 0 to 100% — and by keeping your battery between 50 - 80%.

Wireless chargers make “snack charging” or “top-ups” more convenient by allowing you to effortlessly place your phone on a charging pad or stand for a few minutes as you go about your daily routine. Instead of allowing your phone to fully drain throughout the day and recharge to 100% overnight, consider more frequent “power snacks” to keep your battery in that optimal, 50 - 80% zone.

Does Logitech POWERED support fast charging?

Yes. Logitech POWERED has been certified to fast charge Apple phones at 7.5 watts, and Samsung phones at 9 watts — the fastest wireless charging speed that these manufacturers allow for. Logitech POWERED may charge other phone brands up to 10 watts, depending on their allowed speed.

What’s the best wireless charger?

The best wireless charger is one that’s safe, reliable, and looks great on your desk or nightstand.

Logitech is the recipient of multiple design awards and we carry this passion through to all of our products. Our use of soft-touch materials provides a premium feel, a weighted base prevents POWERED from shifting around on your nightstand, and carefully crafted designs make these products that you’re proud to show off.

Logitech POWERED carries multiple safety mechanisms and is certified to fast charge Apple and Samsung devices.

How energy efficient is wireless charging?

The approximate cost of wirelessly charging your phone from 0 to 100% every night for a year is one dollar and eleven cents.

Although all forms of charging have some level of power loss, the science behind wireless charging causes approximately half of the energy to be lost. The additional cost of charging wirelessly vs using a cable is about fifty cents over the span of a year.

Can you use your phone while wireless charging?

Yes. The phone doesn’t differentiate between receiving power over a cable vs. wirelessly. Just as you may use your phone while it’s plugged in, you may also use your phone while charging wirelessly.

A benefit of Logitech POWERED Stand and 3-in-1 Dock is that your phone is placed upright you can both charge and watch videos or make calls at the same time.

Why does my phone get hot when charging?

It’s expected, and safe, for your phone to heat up when placed on a wireless charger. This is a natural result of electricity being converted to a magnetic field, transmitted wirelessly to your phone, and having your phone convert that field back into power.

Phones monitor their internal temperature and request less power if they get too warm. Qi-enabled phones such as Apple or Samsung safely allow up to 35 degrees Celsius (95F). Logitech POWERED has a secondary temperature gauge that measures every few seconds to ensure things are running safely.

How can I wirelessly charge my Apple AirPods?

You simply place your Apple AirPods inside a wireless charging case and then on the Logitech POWERED charging pad. It will automatically begin to transmit power. There are no settings or changes necessary to enable wireless charging.

The LED on your AirPods will glow when charging is in progress and you may notice the LED turns on and off throughout the charging cycle — this is common behavior. POWERED chargers support both Apple AirPods (1st and 2nd generation) and AirPods Pro.
