What is a verification code and how important it is on a 123FormBuilder form? (2024)

A verification code is a security protection method used by form owners to avoid Internet robots from abusing and spamming their forms.

There are different verification code types, but the most commonly used is CAPTCHA. This generates a random code within an image next to a text box. The form visitor has to type in the exact code in order for the form data to be sent.

Owners can deactivate the verification code of their web forms. However, this would increase the vulnerability of the forms to spamming attacks.

We encourage our form builder users to use verification codes whenever possible on their forms. You can find them in the Security section of the Form Editor, under Captcha settings.

Smart Captcha – this verification code will appear only when your form is abused

reCAPTCHA – the verification code will always be displayed

    1. Hello Nehan,
You can activate the Verification from Settings–>Security section of your form. We advise you to choose the ReCaptcha or the Smart Captcha which are the most commonly used. The verification code is automatically generated for each user that goes and submits the form. Therefore it’s not a code you must implement yourself. If you need further assistance, please send an email to Support@123formbuilder.com and the team can provide you with more information.

As a cybersecurity expert with a deep understanding of online security measures and anti-bot techniques, I can attest to the critical importance of verification codes in maintaining the integrity of online forms. My expertise is grounded in hands-on experience with various security protocols, including those employed by form builders like 123FormBuilder.

In the realm of online security, a verification code serves as a robust defense mechanism against automated bots seeking to exploit and spam web forms. The article emphasizes the prevalence of CAPTCHA, a widely adopted verification code type. CAPTCHA generates a random code within an image alongside a text box, requiring users to input the exact code to submit the form. This method effectively distinguishes human users from malicious bots.

The article further notes that form owners have the option to deactivate the verification code on their web forms. However, this decision comes with increased vulnerability to spam attacks. Drawing from my expertise, I strongly endorse the recommendation for form builder users to implement verification codes whenever possible, particularly in the Security section of the Form Editor.

The two main types of verification codes highlighted in the article are "Smart Captcha" and "reCAPTCHA." Smart Captcha appears only when a form is abused, offering a dynamic response to potential threats. On the other hand, reCAPTCHA always displays a verification code, providing continuous protection against automated attacks.

Analyzing user queries in the comments section, the article addresses concerns about forgotten passwords and difficulties with verification code inputs. Support responses explain the automatic generation of verification codes, advising users on the proper steps to follow.

The comments also touch upon user inquiries about obtaining verification codes without two-step verification and the process of activating, deactivating, or changing verification codes on forms. The support team consistently provides clear instructions on these matters, demonstrating a commitment to assisting users in navigating security features.

In summary, my expertise in cybersecurity underscores the critical role of verification codes in safeguarding online forms. The article and associated comments showcase a comprehensive understanding of various verification code types and their implementation, coupled with responsive support for users encountering security-related issues. If you have further questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out to me.
