Building generational wealth is all about having God’s perspective on your life. When God formed you in your mother’s womb, He didn’t just see you–He saw the biological and spiritual children you would influence throughout your life.
So, what does the Bible say about generational wealth? For starters, Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that God “planted eternity in the human heart.” Your vision and longing to leave a lasting legacy is a part of your DNA. In addition, God repeatedly promises to bless the righteous throughout the Bible. Let’s take a look at Psalm 112:1-3:
“Praise the Lord!
How joyful are those who fear the Lord
And delight in obeying his commands.
Their children will be successful everywhere;
An entire generation of godly people will be blessed.
They themselves will be wealthy,
And their good deeds will last forever.”
What an incredible promise! Since the beginning of time, God has yearned for generations to follow and glorify Him. We can walk in God’s favor, co-create alongside Him, and leave a legacy by teaching the next generation how to steward their lives in a biblical way.
What is considered generational wealth?
Generational wealth includes all the assets that are passed down from one generation to the next: things like cash, investments, real estate, and businesses.
However, wealth is so much more than money. It includes anything of value that you give to your children and grandchildren. It’s the legacy you leave behind. Your wisdom, biblical values, and character are integral to generational wealth.

Why is generational wealth important?
Have you ever noticed how many genealogies are in the Bible? Long lists of names and stories about family heritage constitute the bulk of the Old Testament. In fact, the first blessing that God gave humans was to “be fruitful and multiply.” (Genesis 1:28). Clearly, God cares about generations. A crucial part of spiritual maturity is moving beyond a lifetime perspective into a generational perspective.

Proverbs 13:22 says that a good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children. God designed us to live a purposeful life and leave a legacy. This isn’t about our recognition or fame. Instead, it’s about serving the next generation and giving glory to God.
Our ceiling becomes the next generation’s floor. Generational wealth helps create a solid foundation for our children and grandchildren to build from. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, you can build wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18) and break generational cycles that have kept your family in bondage for years. As Deuteronomy 7:9 says, “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,”
So, the big question is: are you living your life in a way that serves the next generation?
