Valheim's Bronze weapons are the first pieces of industrial-grade gear you can get your hands on in the game. Once the player has collected enough Copper and Tin ore, constructed a forge, and rounded it off with some leather scraps and wood, they can craft bronze weapons.

Our guide to finding and crafting plenty of Bronze will help you get the materials you need. Now you just need to know which weapons are worth crafting and which ones you can probably ignore. Each weapon has its own strengths and weaknesses. So here, from worst to best, are all the bronze weapons in Valheim. And before you ask, the Krom isn't a copper weapon as much as it's an iron one.
Updated April 2, 2024, By Branden Lizardi: Valheim has seen countless tweaks and changes since its original launch, with new major updates and the game's release on Xbox consoles (on Game Pass, no less!). There's never been a better time to try this Norse sandbox out. So we've revisited this list and given it a new layer of polish to ensure that any and all newcomers are well-informed with accurate and up-to-date information.
6 Bronze Pickaxe, Basically Not A Weapon
Weapon | Type | Damage Type | Damage | Max Damage | Backstab | Knockback | Durability |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bronze Pickaxe | Pickaxes | Pierce | 25 | 40 | 3x | 50 | 120-270 |
While the Bronze Pickaxe is obviously important, and you should always craft one, it's not the best weapon to pull out in a tricky fight. Sure, it only takes up one inventory slot, but you will need a bit more firepower to deal with the next set of monsters you encounter after defeating the first boss.
It does have some knockback potential, okay blocking power, and a small parry bonus, which means you can use the pickaxe if you're in a tight situation. Otherwise, it's a good idea to craft a Bronze sword or a Bronze axe, at least.
- It can be used as a tool and a weapon
- Doesn't have great damage or special ability
5 Bronze Axe, Great For Trees, Not So Much For Monsters
Weapon | Type | Damage Type | Damage | Max Damage | Backstab | Knockback | Durability |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bronze Axe | Axes | Slash | 35 | 50 | 3x | 50 | 125-275 |
The Bronze Axe is the third wood-cutting tool players get their hands on in Valheim, and while trees do pose their own threat, the Bronze Axe isn't great at taking down monsters. It's not so much the damage (Bronze Axes have comparable slash and parry to a Bronze sword) but the durability, which is the biggest problem.

A max-quality Bronze Axe has 250 durability, whereas a Bronze Sword has 350. This means you'll have to craft an extra Bronze Axe or two for all the enemy-whacking you get up to. It's much more worthwhile to go for a sword and save the axe for those pesky trees.
- Good for trees
- A tool and a weapon (can save an inventory slot)
- It doesn't have a special ability/attack
4 Bronze Spear, Expensive And Not Very Durable
Weapon | Type | Damage Type | Damage | Max Damage | Backstab | Knockback | Durability |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bronze Spear | Spears | Pierce | 35 | 53 | 3x | 20 | 100-250 |
The Bronze Spear is a straight upgrade to the Flint Spear and has similar damage stats to the other Bronze weapons. It also has two attack modes, a melee jab and a throw, which is why it's ranked just a bit higher than a Bronze axe.
But it's probably not worth your time to bother with Bronze Spears all that much. With a max durability rating of 250 and a base durability rating of just 100, you're going to be going through spears like co*cktail sticks at a dinner party. If you want a ranged attack, get a bow.
- It can be thrown, which is pretty neat
- But can't be thrown that far at all and needs to be picked up afterward
3 Bronze Atgeir, Heavy Damage, But Has Its Downsides
Weapon | Type | Damage Type | Damage | Max Damage | Backstab | Knockback | Durability |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bronze Atgeir | Polearms | Pierce | 45 | 63 | 3x | 30 | 125-275 |
The Bronze Atgeir has greater damage output than both the Bronze Sword and Bronze Spear but comes with a hefty -10 percent movement speed penalty. It's the first Polearm weapon in Valheim, which means it has two attack types: a basic stab attack and the sweeping AoE attack, which can damage and stagger your foes.

This weapon is best used when playing with friends. It's a good idea to have at least one person running the Atgeir to cause damage and stun Valheim's weird creatures while the other players cover their backs. If you're on your own in Valheim, the Atgeir can slow you down to the point that you might find yourself swamped with baddies. Its base durability is also much lower than the Sword.
- Long-range melee attack, good for poking
- AoE knockdown is very useful
- It's a two-handed weapon, so you can't use a shield
- Costs a lot of stamina to use (it's pretty heavy)
2 Bronze Mace, Smash Skeletons To Pieces
Weapon | Type | Damage Type | Damage | Max Damage | Backstab | Knockback | Durability |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bronze Mace | Clubs | Blunt | 35 | 53 | 3x | 80 | 200-350 |
The Bronze Mace is a hefty weapon, falling into the Club category and acting as a straight upgrade to the rudimentary Wooden Club. It inflicts Blunt damage and has a decent chance to stun your opponents. With some well-timed blows, you can keep knocking back your foes and keep them at a safe distance.
Between the Sword and the Mace, it really comes down to personal preference. Both have neat animations and special abilities, but the Mace is generally slower than the sword. One thing the Bronze Mace is very good at is smashing skeletons to bits.
- Inflicts Blunt damage, good against skeletons
- Higher chance to stun with your basic attacks
- A heavy weapon that takes up more inventory weight
- Slower to attack than the axe or sword
1 Bronze Sword, All-Around Weapon
Weapon | Type | Damage Type | Damage | Max Damage | Backstab | Knockback | Durability |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bronze Sword | Swords | Slash | 35 | 53 | 3x | 40 | 200-350 |
The Bronze Sword is widely considered to be the best Bronze weapon you can get your hands on. It has decent durability, damage, and an awesome stunning special attack (the animation looks cooler than the other weapons, as well).
You can also wield the sword while using a shield, taking your time over combat with poking attacks which allows you to ultimately take less damage in your engagements. It's pretty resource-efficient and just an all-around great weapon, perfect for seeing you into the later stages of Valheim.
- Poke damage, great with a shield
- High damage special attack (that also stuns enemies)
- Quick attack speed
- Is quite similar to the axe
