How do I upload folders and files to OneDrive? ›

Save and open files in your Office apps

Select File > Save a Copy​​​​ > OneDrive - [company name] to save a work file to OneDrive.

Internet Connection: Make sure you have a stable internet connection. Sometimes, slow or unstable connections can interrupt file uploads. Clear Cache and Cookies: Sometimes, clearing your browser's cache and cookies can resolve issues with online services like OneDrive.

If you're working on a file by yourself, save it to OneDrive. Your OneDrive files are private unless you share them with others, which is particularly useful if you haven't created a team yet.

Saving to OneDrive automatically

You can save directly to OneDrive from Microsoft Office files (like Word docs and Excel worksheets), PDFs, and other documents. If your PC has a built-in camera, you can automatically save copies of the photos you take directly to OneDrive so you'll always have a backup.

The sync app automatically takes over syncing in the same folder location you were using before. To choose which folders you're syncing, right-click the blue cloud icon in the taskbar notification area, and select Settings > Account > Choose folders.

Invalid or blocked file types

Files that are used by your local computer, such as desktop. ini on Windows or . ds_store on macOS, don't normally sync. If these files do get uploaded to OneDrive during a migration, the sync app will delete the cloud copy and leave the local copy.

If Google Drive is full, it will cause the “Google Drive upload failure” issue. Therefore, you can check how much storage is left. If it is not sufficient, you can choose to upgrade your Google Drive account. Now, you can check your Google Drive storage on the web, or by Drive for Desktop.

The disadvantages of OneDrive are limited sharing options, limited file management, and limited desktop synchronisation settings. Limited Sharing Options: OneDrive's sharing options are limited compared to other cloud storage services, making sharing files with non-Microsoft users difficult.

However, this dialog does not allow choosing in which folder on the OneDrive you want to save the document. All files get saved automatically in the "OneDrive/Documents" default folder.

With the same storage space, OneDrive is cheaper, while Google Drive is a bit more expensive. And OneDrive offers more cloud storage space for business use.

A file won't upload if it doesn't fit in your available storage space. To see how much space you have remaining or to get more storage, go to the Storage page. If you exceed your Microsoft storage, you won't be able to upload, edit, or sync new files (such as Camera Roll) to your OneDrive.

OneDrive may be processing changes without uploading due to a slow or unstable internet connection, conflicting files, or synchronization errors. Check your network connection, resolve conflicts, and ensure that OneDrive is running and up-to-date to facilitate successful uploads.

The time it takes to upload or download a large amount of data to or from OneDrive depends on your internet connection speed, how close you are geographically to our servers, how much your internet service provider (ISP) lets you upload in a day, the speed of your computer, and other factors.

You can upload files into private or shared folders. On your computer, go to drive.google.com. File upload or Folder upload. Choose the file or folder that you want to upload.

Select New > Folder. Type a name for the folder and select Create. Select the files you want and drag them into the folder.
