Smart Gates Dubai Airport latest news

Five updated smart gates are now available at DXB Terminal 3. These new smart gates are enhanced with optic and facial print features. With these features, passengers only need to pass through the gate by looking at the green light or camera without showing their passport or identification document. They only need to ensure they have removed anything that might cover their faces, such as glasses, face masks, or hats.

However, to use this gate, it is important to have the passport or Emirates ID registered at DXB Terminal 3 beforehand. Passengers are also still advised to keep their passport and boarding pass ready even though they use the smart gates, in case the documents will be needed.

The smart gates feature is also expected to be further implemented across Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

The Smart Gates established at the Dubai Airport are a new technology that helps speed up the passport checking process, and eliminates the need for physical stamping at immigration, thereby initiating a contactless process.

As stated by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA), the Smart Gates take seconds to pass through, and they eliminate the need for passengers to show identification documents at different immigration touchpoints across the airport. This is due to the Smart Gates’ fast-track biometric system that uses face and iris recognition technology to let travellers complete passport control procedures within a short span of five seconds.
