What do I do if PIP is refused twice? ›

Before you can appeal to a tribunal, you'll need to ask the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to look at the decision again. This is called mandatory reconsideration. If the DWP didn't change their decision when you asked them to look at it again, you can appeal to an independent panel, called a tribunal.

If your illness, condition or disability has got worse since the date of your application and you were refused benefit altogether, you could make a new claim. If you were given some benefit but not as much as you think you should get now, you need to ask for your benefit to be reassessed.

Permitted work

There is no similar provision with personal independence payment, so that the money you earn and the number of hours you work do not directly affect the PIP payable.

Declining to sign may be interpreted as refusing to cooperate on performance improvement, and therefore, grounds for termination.

Work doesn't affect personal independence payment (PIP) in so far as PIP is not means-tested and you can be paid PIP whether you are working full-time, part-time or not at all. So, you could work as a merchant banker earning millions and still be eligible for PIP.

You can request a Mandatory Reconsideration of the decision and, if this is unsuccessful you can appeal. Your Mandatory Reconsideration (MR) request must arrive at DWP on a working day within one month of the date of the decision letter, otherwise you must show 'good cause' for its lateness.
