Why would an NZeTA be declined? ›

we believe you might be a risk to New Zealand's security, public order or public interest — for example, you have been associated with a gang or registered sex offenders. we think you might commit an offence that would result in you going to prison, or. you have been deported, excluded or removed from another country.

We usually process NZeTA requests within 72 hours — many are processed faster, but some may take longer. To avoid delays, you should request an NZeTA well before you travel.

You must hold an NZeTA if you are boarding a flight or cruise that leaves for New Zealand, and you: are visiting on a passport from a visa waiver country — that is, a country whose passport holders do not need to get a visa before they travel to New Zealand.

U.S. citizens traveling to or transiting through New Zealand under the visa waiver program are required to have an NZeTA.

Please note: INZ officers refuse more than 51% of New Zealand tourist visa applications every year because the applicants cannot prove that they are genuine visitors/tourists.

Universities New Zealand, representing all eight tertiary institutions, has raised concerns with the government. According to Immigration New Zealand, while 28% of all study visa applications from India were rejected in 2022, this figure rose to 40% in 2023.

Approval for the NZeTA can take up to 72 hours, so do remember to apply for it well in advance.

While most eTAs are issued in minutes, some can take several days to process. In such cases, more information is needed before the application is approved. IRCC will contact you via email and advise you of the next steps. Check the junk/spam mail folder of the email address you provided on your eTA application form.

1 K-ETA eligible nationals, who wish to enter visa-free the Republic of Korea, must obtain K-ETA approval before boarding the flight or ship. How much does NZeTA cost? ›

If you are from a visa waiver country you must request an NZeTA before you travel. It costs NZD $17 on our free app, or NZD $23 if completed online. You must also pay an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL). The IVL costs NZD $35 and is paid at the same time as the NZeTA.

If you are a genuine visitor, travelling visa waiver allows you to travel to New Zealand without applying for, and being granted, a visa before you travel. You can instead be granted a visitor visa on arrival, when you request entry permission by presenting your arrival card and passport at airport Immigration.

U.S. citizens are exempt from the eTA requirement and must carry proper identification such as a valid U.S. passport. Lawful permanent residents of the United States who hold valid status in the U.S. are exempt from the eTA requirement.

United States passport holders will usually require a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) to enter New Zealand. An NZeTA is valid for 2 years. The processing time may take up to 72 hours. NZeTA - New Zealand Travel Authority

It's called the NZeTA - New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority. The NZeTA is issued by Immigration New Zealand (INZ) and is required for travel from 1 October 2019. UK passport holders must have an NZeTA issued before travelling to New Zealand, if they don't have a visa.

eTA – Refusal Reasons

Providing a passport number that was reported lost or stolen. Having overstayed in Canada on a previous visit. A previous visa denial. Engaging in unauthorized work on a previous visit.

Both the NZeTA and IVL are valid for multiple entries over two years.
