Keto Sugar Free Pecan Pralines - Butter Together Kitchen (2024)

Introduction

These sugar free pecan pralines were inspired by a trip that Dylan and I took to Savannah, Georgia. We loved EVERYTHING about that city. It was one of the most beautiful places we have ever been!

Not only was it beautiful, but the food was great, the people were friendly, and best of all… there were candy stores everywhere! I mean EVERYWHERE!

It seemed like there was a candy store on every block, and we had no problem with that at all. I think we probably spent most of our travel budget on candy, like any responsible adult would. I probably should point out that we took this trip before we started keto. 😉

After a trip like that, how could we not attempt to make a sugar free pecan praline!? Pralines are just too good not to have in your life!

If we were to go back now, it would (probably) go a little differently. Either way, in every candy store in Savannah, right in the front of the store, they sold pralines, and as soon as we tried one we fell in love!

Pecan Pralines

Pralines are a pretty simple candy. They’re pretty much made of some sort of nut (usually pecans) and sugar. Oh, and butter.

In other words, just the essential ingredients for DELICIOUS!

It was pretty easy to keto-fy our favorite Savannah snack. We subbed sugar for Golden Monkfruit and used muffin cups as a mold (though this step isn’t required). Those are pretty much the only differences between our pralines and a traditional praline.

Ingredients Needed For Keto Pecan Pralines

You probably already have all the ingredients you need to make these keto pecan pralines! Sweetener, heavy cream, butter, cinnamon, and pecans are all that you will need to whip up this delicious treat!

Even though it’s not technically an ingredient, it is worth mentioning that we used a muffin pan to help shape our keto pecan pralines. It is totally optional to use one, but for us it just made the process a little easier! Without one, you run the risk of thinner pralines but still delicious.

How To Make These Sugar Free Pecan Pralines:

  1. Roast the pecans for ten minutes at 300 degrees.
  2. Combine sweetener, butter, cinnamon, heavy cream, and vanilla extract into a skillet or saucepan and stir over medium heat until sweetener is completely dissolved.
  3. Let mixture cook until well thickened; be sure to stir constantly to avoid burning.
  4. Add in roasted pecans.
  5. Stir so that all pecans are coated with mixture. You will want to act fast as the mixture will begin to firm quickly.
  6. Spoon the mixture into your muffin cups and refrigerate for about 10 minutes or until the pralines become firm.

What Keto-Friendly Sweetener To Use:

For these sugar free pecan pralines we thought it would be best to use Lakanto’s Golden Monkfruit. This sweetener is the keto equivalent of brown sugar, and it works PERFECTLY in these keto pralines!

Though we do recommend Golden Monkfruit for this recipe, pretty much any sweeter will work. Our second choice of sweetener is Lakanto’s Classic Monkfruit.

Monkfruit, whether classic or golden, has no aftertaste or cooling effect like other keto-friendly sweeteners, it’s a zero on the glycemic index, has zero additives, and has a 1:1 ratio to sugar. Best of all, Monkfruit tastes great!

If you want to try Lakanto’s Monkfruit for the first time, or if you just need to restock, orderHERE and use our code ‘BUTTERTOGETHER‘for and additional 20% off your entire purchase! This offer is good not just on Monkfruit, but any item on Lakanto’s site.

What's the difference between candied pecans and pralines? ›

Praline pecans are usually made with brown sugar and nuts. They are pecans covered in a sweet praline-flavored mix. Pecan pralines, however, are a confectionary dessert of patty-shaped pecan candies. A candied pecan is similar to praline pecans in that they are nuts glazed or covered in a candy coating.

What is the difference between butter pecan and pralines and cream? ›

Compared to butter pecan ice cream, praline ice cream is smoother in texture, owing to the fact that the nuts have already been transformed into pralines. Butter pecan ice cream keeps the actual pecan nuts intact, resulting in a crunchier texture.

How to soften pecan pralines? ›

Since the problem is mostly that the sugar in the pralines gets hard and crystallized, you might try softening them the way you'd soften hard brown sugar. Place a terracotta sugar saver in the container or something else that's slightly damp, like a few slices of apple or a slice of fresh bread.

Why do my pralines have white spots? ›

Pecan pralines last up to three weeks. So it is better to consume the pecan pralines in the first two to three weeks after you make them. Why do pralines turn white? ›

Pralines are a much-appreciated festive treat, but come to think of it, they're simply delicious at any time of the year. When your pralines turn white, you are seeing the recrystallization of sugar. And you are right that honey does technically slow down the rate at which crystals form in candy.
