How much does it cost to swim at Jacob's Well? ›

Jacob's Well is open to the public from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. Hikers and other non-swimmers do not have to pay an entrance fee or make a reservation. However, they should arrive early as the park can reach capacity. Swimmers must pay a fee of $5 for children ages 5-12, $9 for adults, and $5 for seniors.

Swimming at Jacob's Well Natural Area is allowed from May 1st - September 30th BY RESERVATION ONLY. Each reservation guarantees two hours of swimming in Jacob's Well.

Harsh droughts brought the well to the brink of no return, damaging ecosystems and local economies. It also diminished some of the well's cultural relevance, Katherine Sturdivant, parks education coordinator for the Parks Department, told the American-Statesman in August.

The cave system below is extremely dangerous to explore which has led to several SCUBA casualties in the past. Only permitted cave diving research professionals are now allowed to dive Jacob's Well. Their effort has charted the cave system to nearly 140 feet deep and almost a mile in length!

This is a short hike to the headwaters of Cypress Creek that flows though downtown Wimberley. It is a natural, flowing artesian well and the crystal clear, cold water is a favorite swimming hole in summer. It is crowded in summer but that is not a problem at other times.

Once a perennial spring that kept flowing even during extreme droughts, Jacob's Well has been drying up with increasing frequency over the last two decades thanks to drought and overpumping. Its new intermittency is a warning sign that the Trinity Aquifer is diminishing rapidly.

It is easy for the novice to accidentally stir up the silt so he cannot tell up from down or which way is in or out. The Jacob's Well Exploration Project, of which Gregg Tatum is the director, has mapped the cave system. It plunges to 140 feet at its deepest point; 14 stories underground, underwater.

Temperature of the water in Jacob's Well remains a near-constant 68°F and visibility is typically excellent. The spring provides habitat to numerous species of fish (principally sunfish and perch); turtles; aquatic insects; crustaceans; and, most notably, the cave-adapted Fern Bank salamander (Eurycea pterophilia).

Jacob's Well is named in the New Testament Gospel of John as the scene of Jesus's encounter with the Samaritan woman: So [Jesus] came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well.

Jacob's Well is known for its soft, or light, water that is supplied in two ways—through underground sources that make it a true well and by percolated surface water, which makes it a cistern, as the Gr. word φρέαρ, G5853, indicates (4:11). This may have prompted Jesus' remark about living water in v. 14.

Jacob's Well is the second longest submerged cave in Texas and an artesian spring that delivers several thousand gallons of water per minute. It acts as the headwaters to Cypress Creek that flows through Wimberley into Blue hole and then to the Blanco River.

The most important thing to know about visiting Jacob's Well is that if you plan to swim you MUST make a reservation beforehand. This should be done online ahead of time. While Jacob's Well natural area does accept visitors without reservations, those visitors will not be able to swim.

Jacob's Well was a simple but beautiful treasure. The exterior of the Church was picturesque and the interior well is so historic. You can drink water from a well that Jesus drank from.

What a great way to spend the day. Please note, there is no swimming during the week after Sept 1, which was great for me because I had the place all to myself. If you follow directions from map quest it takes you to the closest point to Jacob;s well but you cannot park there.
