How long does it take for seller to get paid? ›

A seller typically receives their money from the home sale 24 – 48 hours after closing. This timeline can be different depending on your state and whether the seller chooses to receive their money by cashier's check or wire transfer.

You don't have to contact the buyer if they haven't paid – we'll send them reminders to pay. If you don't receive payment, you can cancel the order after 4 calendar days.

Typically, orders that aren't paid for will be cancelled automatically after 4 or more calendar days.

If your item wasn't delivered to the location you agreed, it's the seller's legal responsibility to sort out the issue. You can ask them to redeliver your item. You can ask for a full refund if: a delivery date was essential and wasn't met.

Immediately after the transaction closes, escrow pays the seller the full purchase price in the form of a cashier's check or wire transfer—minus any fees, taxes, or real estate commissions, which the seller is required to pay.

How quickly you get paid after a sale depends on when the buyer completes the order and your preferred payout method. Once eBay initiates your payout, your bank typically takes 1-3 business days to make your funds available in your checking account, or 30 minutes or less to your debit card for an additional fee.

Consequences for Failing to Pay a Winning Bid

You're liable for the deposit on auction day and the rest of the purchase price, plus fees, by the completion deadline (typically 28 days after the auction). If you can't pay the deposit, you may face legal consequences.

Buyers must pay for the items they purchase on eBay within 4 calendar days. If the buyer doesn't pay within this timeframe, the seller can cancel the order and an unpaid cancellation will be recorded on the buyer's account.

Failure to pay for items is a violation of our abusive buyer policy. When a seller cancels an order because the buyer hasn't paid, the unpaid cancellation is recorded on the buyer's account. Buyers who have excessive unpaid cancellations may have limits imposed by a seller or by eBay, or lose their buying privileges.

Contact your state attorney general or state consumer protection office. These government agencies might mediate complaints, conduct investigations, and take other action against those who break consumer protection laws.
