Why is Venmo not letting me make an account? ›

Sometimes, our automated ID verification process doesn't work because the information is unavailable or your name or address has changed. In that case, we'll ask you to send us documentation in the app that confirms your identity. Learn about which documents are accepted for identity verification.

Open the Venmo app. Choose your sign-up method and create a secure password (between 8 and 20 characters long, and should contain at least one number or symbol like !()@#$% Verify your phone number and email address. Add and verify your bank account.

Then, enter the following personal information: Phone number, email address, and bank account number. You'll also need to create a Venmo login and password to secure your account. Note that, when you first open your account, you'll have a rolling limit of $299.99 per week for payments and purchases.

When you sign up, a verification code will be sent to your phone number via text message. This text/SMS will come from a five-digit number (86753). Enter the verification code from the text message when prompted in the Venmo app/website to verify your phone number.

Paying and requesting payment

You can also pay or request money from someone who's not currently signed up for Venmo by using that person's phone number or email address. The recipient will receive a message. Once he or she has signed up for an account, the money will be transferred/charged.
