1 Celebi Is An Elusive Event-Only Pokémon

Like Gen I's extremely elusive Mew, the Mythical time-traveling Pokémon Celebi is easily among the hardest creatures to come by in Gold, Silver, and Crystal.

Celebi is a Psychic/Grass, dual-type legendary Pokémon. It is the guardian of Ilex Forest in the Johto region. Celebi cannot be caught from the wild and can only be obtained by glitching Sneasel.

The Ilex Shrine is found generated rarely in Forest (Forge) biomes, it is used to spawn Celebi and alien Celebi. When a Celebi is summoned it will instantly be engaged in battle with the player. To spawn a regular Celebi you right-click the shrine with a GS Ball in hand.

The intention was for Celebi to travel with Ash and his friends, but these plans changed when it was decided that Celebi would appear in one of the Pokémon movies. As such, the GS Ball was left with Kurt and there was never any intention to reveal its contents.

What makes shiny Celebi so rare is that it's not part of the regular shiny Pokemon that can be caught in the wild. Instead, players need to complete special tasks or partake in events where shiny Celebi is a reward. This means its availability is limited, making it a prized catch for any trainer.
