How to Cancel or Reclaim an Interac e-Transfer (2024)

To Cancel an Interac e-Transfer in Online Banking:

As long as the recipient hasn’t accepted the transfer and deposited the funds, you have 30 days to cancel an Interac e-Transfer before it expires. If you cancel an Interac e-Transfer transaction that was funded with your Avion Points, the points will be returned to your Avion Rewards account.

  • Sign in to Online Banking.
  • On the right-hand side of the Accounts Summary page, select Payment History.
  • Select the Interac e-Transfer that you want to cancel.
  • Select Cancel Payment and follow the on-screen instructions to cancel the transfer.

Please note: If there's no “Cancel” option for you to select, it is no longer possible to cancel that Interac e-Transfer. Also, if the recipient is registered for Autodeposit, the transfer is processed and cannot be reversed. In this case, funds are withdrawn from your account and deposited into the recipient’s account.

To Reclaim an Interac e-Transfer in Online Banking:

An Interac e-Transfer will expire after 30 calendar days if it hasn’t been accepted by your recipient. After an e-Transfer has expired, you have 15 calendar days to reclaim it and deposit the money back into your account. If you completed the Interac e-Transfer transaction using your Avion Points, the points will be returned to your Avion Rewards account.

  • On the right-hand side of the Accounts Summary page, select Payment History.
  • Select the Interac e-Transfer that you want to reclaim.
  • Select Cancel Payment and follow the on-screen instructions to reclaim the transfer.

Please note: If you haven’t reclaimed your transfer within 15 days after it expires, we’ll apply a $5 fee to deposit the money back into your account for you. The fee does not apply if you used your Avion Points to send money via Interac e-Transfer.
