Is Google getting rid of unlimited storage? ›

At the end of 2020, Google announced the end of unlimited storage for all educational institutions. Starting in November 2024, Google will enforce storage limits, and the university will be required to reduce its Google Workspace storage consumption.

Google introduced a new model for Google Workspace for Education (GWE) that will end unlimited storage on Nov. 1, 2024, for all educational institutions.

Users who reach the 750-GB limit can't upload or copy more files until the limit refreshes. The limit refreshes within 24 hours. You can upload and synchronize files up to 5 TB in size.

The change comes following Google's recent announcement that it will stop offering unlimited free storage for higher education accounts. Later this month, HUIT will begin working with FAS Google account holders who have exceeded the 25 GB limit.

Unlike Evernote, Google Keep is completely free. It does use your Google account's storage, so you have a 15GB storage limit before you have to upgrade (via either a Google One or Google Workspace subscription).

As of June 1, Google has ended its unlimited free storage policy for Google Photos. Google Photos ended its unlimited free storage policy for photos and videos as of June 1. Now any new photos and videos you upload will count toward the free 15GB of storage that comes with every Google account.

Google has also given a deadline for this, which is on June 27, 2022. After this, the accounts of the free users will be migrated to the paid Google Workspace and users will have to pay in order to access their account. If this move has left you shocked and thinking about alternatives, then do not worry.

If you're looking for a solution that offers more features than Google Workspace but doesn't require you to pay, Zoho Workplace is a nice Google Workspace alternative. It's also a good option if you want to add more features later on.

Eligibility: Every Google Workspace Individual account will get free 1TB cloud storage. Users don't have to do anything. The upgrade will happen automatically. Note that the storage increase from 15GB to 1TB will impact customers with Google Workspace Individual accounts.

If your account holds more than 35 GB of content, you will receive an extended 150 GB limit on July 5, 2023.

If your storage plan is canceled or expires

If you cancel your storage plan, you'll lose all additional storage for your account.

If you cancel your storage plan, you'll lose all additional storage for your account. At the end of your billing cycle, you may be over quota. If you're over your storage quota for 2 years, all the content that counts toward your storage quota may be deleted.

When your account reaches its storage limit: You can't sync or upload new files. You can't create new files in Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms, or Jamboard. Until you reduce the amount of storage you use, neither you nor anyone else can edit or copy your affected files.
