How to fix user Folder Redirection? ›

For optimal performance of the Folder Redirection feature, it is strongly recommended that you create only the root share on the server, and then let the system create the folders for each user. If you must create the folders for users, ensure that you correctly assign permissions.

Potential conflicts: If two users access the same redirected folder or file offline and make changes to it, conflicts can arise when they try to sync their changes back to the server. This can result in lost data or data corruption if the conflicts are not resolved properly.

Configure Folder Redirection settings under User Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Folder Redirection. Specify the target folder that we want to redirect to the network location. In this demonstration, the document folder is selected to redirect to the E drive on the server.

Folder Redirection allows saving data regardless of storage location and separates user data from profile data decreasing the time required to log on. Other advantages include: Data is stored on a server where it can be backed up.

301 moved permanently

301 refers to the HTTP status code for this type of redirect. In most instances, the 301 redirect is the best method for implementing redirects on a website.

Fix the Redirects

Edit any URLs with typos or incorrect paths. If the destination page has moved, update the redirect to point to the new URL. Ensure you are using the correct HTTP status codes (e.g., 301 for permanent redirects, 302 for temporary).

What permissions are required for Folder Redirection? ›

You must give the Authenticated Users group delegated Read permissions to the Folder Redirection GPO. If you don't, the GPO isn't applied to users, or if it's already applied, the GPO is removed, redirecting folders back to the local PC.

Open the Chrome Developer Tools (F12) Go to the Network tab and make sure Disable cache is ticked Reload (or navigate to) the page you no longer want to be redirected while keeping the dev tools open. This will clear the cached redirect.

Changes are synced in the background every 120 minutes, by default, but synchronization is configurable by using the Configure Background Sync Group Policy setting. For more information, see Enable Always Offline mode for faster access to files.

Roaming User Profiles is used to redirect a user profile to a network location, whereas Folder Redirection enables users and administrators to redirect the path of a known folder to a new location, manually or by using Group Policy. So, the latter may allow for more granularity.

Right-click a folder that you want to redirect (for example, Documents), and then select Properties. In the Properties dialog box, from the Settings box, select Basic - Redirect everyone's folder to the same location.

Step 4: How to Remove Folder Redirection

For each of the redirected folders, right-click the folder and select Properties, then move to the Settings tab. In the Policy Removal section, change the selection to "Redirect the folder back[...]". Close the edit window and move to the Delegation tab for the GPO.
