At what hCG level can you see a baby on ultrasound? ›

A gestational sac is predicted to be visualized 50% of the time at an HCG level of 979 mIU/mL, 90% at 2421 mIU/mL, and 99% of the time at 3994 mIU/mL. A yolk sac was predicted to be visualized 50% of the time at an HCG level of 4626 mIU/mL, 90% at 12,892 mIU/mL, and 99% at 39,454 mIU/mL.

The first developmental structure big enough to be visualized by transvagin*l ultrasonography is the gestational sac, which appears in the endometrial cavity at around 4.5-5 weeks' gestation (corresponding to a β-HCG level of 1000-1500 mIU/mL).

5 weeks gestation is still very early with your baby beginning to form. A transvagin*l ultrasound examination at 5 weeks gestation may show a tiny sac about 5mm in size in the lining of the womb (uterus). Around the gestation sac is a thick white band of tissue which is called the chorion.
