After you download the Square Point of Sale app on your Android phone, check your device settings to see if NFC is on. If it's not on, turn it on. Then, navigate back to the Square Point of Sale app. In the More menu, visit settings and verify that Tap to Pay on Android is enabled.

Position your phone close to your customer, and allow them to tap and hold either a card or any contactless payment-type devices (i.e. Apple Pay, Google Pay, Apple Watch, etc.) to the back of the phone. You'll hear an audible beep once the payment is accepted, signifying a successful transaction.

Tap to Pay on Android is not compatible with Samsung Galaxy S8, S9, and Note 9. If you're using Square for Restaurants, Tap to Pay on Android is only compatible with Samsung A32 5G and Samsung A13.

Hold your phone closer to the payment reader. Hold your phone close to the payment reader for a few more seconds. Move your phone out of range of the payment reader for a few seconds and try again. If the payment doesn't go through, find the NFC sign on the terminal or ask a cashier for help.

To enable manual card entry for Square Virtual Terminal: Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Payments > Virtual Terminal > Settings > Checkout. Toggle on Manually Enter Card. Click Save.
