The Academic Female Finance Committee (AFFECT) is a committee of the American Finance Association and is designed to promote the advancement of women academics in the field of finance.The formation of AFFECTwas motivated by several factors: (1) there are relatively few women in finance, particularly at senior levels, (2) women are not advancing at the same rates as men, and (3) while in many STEM fields the gender gap has narrowed, in economics it has not. An increasing body of research provides evidence onrelevant underlying factors. AFFECT seeks to collect moresystematic evidenceon the standing of women in finance and also to raise awareness regarding the representation of women in seminar series, in conferences, and in applicant pools.
